activities and attractions...

The Grampians region is regarded as a premier nature-based and adventure destination. From gentle bushwalking to extreme rock-climbing. There are a range of guided tours to help you conquer the mountains.

Local adventure companies offer a variety of climbing and abseiling courses designed to take you to new heights.

A variety of challenging day and overnight walks in the more remote parts of the Grampians offer the chance to trek through pristine remote wilderness. Details on all Grampians walks are available from Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre in Halls Gap. Tour the region’s national parks and wineries in luxury with escorted tours.

Lakes, rivers and streams throughout the region offer some of the finest inland fishing in Australia. Worth a try are Lake Wartook (redfin, brown trout), Lake Bellfield (redfin, trout, no internal combustion power boats), Lake Fyans (redfin, rainbow and brown trout), Moora Moora and Lake Bolac (redfin, yellow belly, rainbow, eels and brown trout).

Take on your own Grampians challenge or play golf at Mt Difficult (9 hole), Stawell Golf Club (18 hole), Stawell Grange (18 hole) or Chalambar Golf Club (Ararat). Clubs are available for hire at each Golf Course and Stawell and Chalambar offer cart hire. Test your putting skills with the 2004 built Adventure Golf course (one of the highest quality in Australia).

Mount up and enjoy a horseback trail ride through the western side of the Grampians (at Brimpaen).

Mountain bike riding   Native flora regeneration

Join a guided downhill mountain bike tour through the ranges. The tours combine free-wheeling with a short walk and study of environmental features.

No swimming is allowed in Lake Wartook or MacKenzie Creek as water from the Grampians supplies drinking water to the region. Venus Baths is one place where you can dip in the rock pools, particularly good in Spring and early Summer. Other lakes ideal for swimming include Lake Bellfield, Lake Fyans and Lake Bolac.

Waterfalls can be found at locations throughout the Park. Some of the more accessible waterfalls include MacKenzie Falls (flows all year round, 18 kms from Halls Gap), Silverband Falls (seasonal, 12 kms from Halls Gap) and Clematis Falls, an easy stroll from the Halls Gap town centre (seasonal).

In Spring view the spectacular colours of the wildflowers in bloom. The Grampians is a showcase of many of the state’s finest plants with over a third of Victoria’s native plants found here.

Over 200 species of birds, 35 species of mammals and 30 species of reptiles have been observed in the Grampians and more can be found in the surrounding parks. Koalas are difficult to spot but can be found in the Grampians. The wildlife park is the most convenient place to see native animals including koalas, kangaroos and emus. Kangaroos can be spotted at the Halls Gap recreation oval and caravan parks as well as the valley floor most mornings and evenings.
